Leonardo DiCaprio Raises $38.8 Million for Wildlife Conservation

Saving the planet through epic badassery, Leonardo DiCaprio uses his powers for good

After a year of planning, Leonardo DiCaprio’s recent art auction through Christie’s raised $38.8m for conservation and environmental causes. DiCaprio worked with a number of artists to create unique pieces for the auction. He encouraged bidders to dig deep before the event started saying: “Bid as if the fate of the planet depended on us,” and dig deep they did with 13 records for artists including Joe Bradley, Mark Grotjahn, Carol Bove, Raymond Pettibon and Mark Ryden. The 33 works were all donated by the artists and many were commissioned especially for the auction.

The featured picture is one of underground artist, Banksy’s contributions while the Picture below is a portrait of DiCaprio by Elizabeth Payton which fetched $1 million at auction.
