Essential Camping Checklist

Are you planning a break to feel rejuvenated? Camping is the perfect activity! Digital detoxing while being surrounded by serene greenery, what could be better?

For camping, you have to pack strategically and smartly. Underpacking can be just as disastrous than overpacking. Here are the essentials you’ll need:

  • Camping Tent

There is a wide variety of camping tents available on the market. Take into account the number of people and the weather to narrow down your options. An ideal tent should be weather-resistant, durable and at the same time lightweight.

  • Tactical Gear

In the wild, you don’t have four walls of your house to keep you protected. From animals to adverse weather conditions, there are many elements that can disrupt your camping trip.

You should definitely pack a pocket knife that will be highly useful. Also, keeping duty gear such as a pepper spray is a smart idea.

  • Flashlight

Though many camping sites are trying to provide electricity, you should still keep a flashlight. It should be powerful and lightweight. And don’t forget to take extra batteries!

  • Bear Bag

Get a bear bag in order to protect your food and other belongings from ransacking bears.

  • Sleeping bag

Sleeping bags have come a long way from being uncomfortable sleeping sacks. Now, you can get well-padded, heated sleeping bags for deep sleep, even in the wild.

  • Dry Bag

Rain and dew are unpredictable. For this purpose, pack a dry bag to keep your gear from getting wet.

  • Backpack

You need a backpack that is capable of holding all your camping supplies. If you’re planning a budget trip, don’t cut costs by purchasing a cheap backpack. Get a heavy-duty backpack with durable straps, thick padding, and strong zippers.

  • Lighter or Fire-Starting Kit

Fire plays a crucial role in camping. From cooking to keeping yourself warm, you will require a fire starter. You can go the convenient route by packing lighters and matchboxes. However, if you desire the full camping experience, get a fire starting kit. The plus point? Unlike a lighter, it will never run out of fuel.

  • Utensils

On a camping trip, you are your own chef. Depending on your requirements, carry pans, pots, bowls, spoons, and mugs. Titanium and aluminum are top choices for cookware.

  • Insect Repellent

Other than pure delight, nature has a variety of creepy crawlies to offer. To save yourself from swatting mosquitoes, remember to grab some effective insect repellent.

  • First Aid Kit

You CANNOT forget to take a first aid kit. It should contain Band-Aids, allergy medications, ibuprofen, anti-diarrhea medication, burn kits, blister pads and other essentials.

  • Water Filter

You probably won’t have access to filtered water, which is why you should pack a portable water filter to purify water. In addition to this, also keep iodine tablets as a backup in case your water filter breaks.

  • GPS

Yes, going camping implies disconnecting from technology but not entirely. It’s easy to lose your sense of direction in the wild. Keep a GPS device for easier and safe navigation.

  1. Toiletries

Pack travel size toiletries and toilet paper, of course!

  • Sunscreen

Don’t let sunburn make your camping experience painful. Pack sunscreen.

  • Duct Tape

Why would you need duct tape on a camping trip? Whether you tore a hole in your tent or the sole of your boot came off, duct tape will save the day.

  • Rope

For hanging your food, securing a tarp or tying up a boat, you never know when you’ll need it.
