Winter can really dry out your lips, or perhaps your perfect pucker just hasn’t been the same since the great cooties outbreak of 2001. Whatever the reason for your dry lips, commercial lip balms are often packed with unnatural ingredients and can leave your lips feeling even dryer. Here are some really awesome recipes for making your very own lip balms.
Bashful Beeswax Balm
You will need:
5 teaspoons sunflower or jojoba oil
3 tablespoons grated unbleached beeswax
6 or 7 drops essential oil (mint, lemon, lavender and peppermint are all great options)
1 teaspoon honey
How it’s done:
In a double boiler* melt the beeswax and the oil together over low heat. Now chuck in the honey and essential oil and give it a good stir. Pour into tins or plastic containers and allow to cool for 20 minutes before use.
Super Sexy Sensational Lip Balm
This recipe is especially good for lips that need a little extra attention. If you have chapped lips, this balm will get them smooth and kissable in two shakes of a lamb’s tail
1 tbsp. avocado oil
2 tbsp. sweet almond oil
1 tbsp. coconut oil
1 tbsp. + 1 teaspoon beeswax
1 tsp vitamin E oil
2 tsp essential oil (mint, lemon, lavender and peppermint are all great options)
Melt beeswax with avocado, almond and coconut oil in a double boiler* over low heat. Remove from heat and add essential oil and vitamin E. Stir well and pour into lip balm tins. Leave to cool for 20 minutes.
* Don’t have a double boiler? Get a small pot filled with water and float a glass or metal bowl in the water.
