British Holiday

Your Guide to Holidays in Britain

Whether you live in Britain and are planning a staycation or if you are planning to make a trip there for a holiday abroad, there are things to know before you take your holiday. First, you should decide on the type of holiday you are interested in. Do you want a city break, an educational holiday, or a country relaxation retreat?

City Breaks
Britain has some beautiful and famous cities, from London to Edinburgh, and football cities such as Liverpool and Manchester. With historical sites throughout the major and minor cities, there is no shortage of things to do to keep yourself entertained.

Shopping is an excellent pastime if you spend time in the bigger cities. If you have an interest in Premier League football, you can arrange tours of the famous stadiums in Britain and see the trophy cabinets of your favorite teams.

If you have a passion for the arts, you may choose to spend your holiday with a show at London’s West End or a show at the Edinburgh Comedy Festival. In addition to the two most famous places to see plays and comedy, you can find shows across Britain to enjoy.

Educational Trips
Britain has a rich history ranging from the Roman Invasion to the Industrial Revolution, and evidence of this history is still present across the country. If you wish to learn more about British history, there are thousands of historical sights you can visit.

You could choose to spend time in the North East walking along Hadrian’s Wall or visiting Roman settlements. Alternatively, you may wish to tour some of the castles across Britain or visit some of the battle sites of the Scottish rebellions in the highlands.

Plan an itinerary to see everything you need, and consider taking or hiring a car to visit everywhere you want to go.

Relax in the Country
For some, a holiday is the time they relax, take time off work, and read or ramble. Britain has some gorgeous countryside; whether you choose to rent a cottage or spend some time at a campsite or holiday park, you can experience the countryside for yourself.

If you are planning to spend time exploring or relaxing in the countryside, you can use a website such as The Camping Fire to get up-to-date information and suggestions for things to do.

Beach Days
When you think of days spent at the beach, you may be thinking of crystal-clear oceans, white sand, and temperatures well above those in Britain. However, Britain has some beautiful coastline with opportunities for surfing, paddle boarding, fishing, or visiting historical piers.

On warm days, you can spend time with your family building sandcastles, sunbathing, or reading to the sound of the waves hitting the shore.

Hiking Trails
If you enjoy spending time outdoors, you can explore hiking trails across Britain or climb some of the famous peaks. Though not as big as other mountain ranges worldwide, Britain has peaks to conquer and amazing sights to see at the summits.

If mountain climbing is not your thing, you can ramble or hike many trails solo, with hiking groups, or with a private guide.
