Natural Shampoo recipe

DIY Organic Herbal Shampoo

Make your own shampoo! Yes, you can and it’s super duper easy. That way, you know exactly what’s in it and you aren’t putting chemicals on your noggin or down the drain.

This shampoo can be customized with your very own herbal mixture, or try our suggestions. Castile soap (such as dr. Bronner’s) should be readily available in your local health food shop.

What you’ll need:

  • 4 Tbsp of pure castile liquid soap
  • 1 L of strong herbal tea using one of the following mixtures:

Dry hair:

  • 1 Tbsp Nettle
  • 1 Tbsp Comfrey
  • 1 Tbsp Calendula

Oily hair:

  • ½ Tbsp Rosemary
  • 1 Tbsp Witch Hazel Bark (not extract)
  • 1 Tbsp Yarrow

Brighten golden hair:

  • 1 Tbsp Chamomile
  • 1 Tbsp Calendula
  • 1 Tbsp Comfrey

Brighten dark hair:

  • 1 Tbsp rosemary
  • 1 Tbsp Sage
  • 1 Tbsp Comfrey

Brew a good strong tea with your herbs and 1 Liter of water in a covered pot (let simmer for 20 minutes).  Add soap to cooled tea and put into small squeeze bottles. Remember that these natural shampoos will not give you a foam party, but they will clean your hair and scalp naturally and effectively.
