It’s time to start carving, but you want your pumpkin pals to go the distance. Here’s a couple of tips on how to prevent bacteria and decay.
- Wash the pumpkin well before cutting.
- Get as much of the inside stringy bits and seeds out as you can so bacteria has fewer places to grow.
- Carve the pumpkin, then rinse the inside and cut edges with a 2:1 water and bleach solution or a solution of tea tree oil and grapefruit seed extract to prevent decay.
- Rub the cut edges with oil.
You’re ready to grace your front porch with a pumpkin that will last! Happy Halloween!
