Ingredients

  • 6 small taco shells
  • oil for frying
  • ½ cup cinnamon sugar
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 4 apples (peeled, cored, and chopped)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • pinch salt

Method

Make the cinnamon shells: Cover the bottom of your camping pan with oil and heat over a medium fire until shimmering. Pop one tortilla in at a time and cook for 1 minute. Flip it over and cook for another minute. Remove from heat and coat in cinnamon sugar. Drape over a twig so you get a folded taco and leave to cool. Repeat with the other 3 tortillas.

Make the apple filling: In a large skillet over a medium fire, melt butter. Add apples, sugar, cinnamon and salt. Cook until the mixture is jammy—about 10 minutes. Divide the mixture in 4 and scoop into cooled taco shells.

Serves 4

Tips

Use oil instead of the butter if you want to make this on the trail and don’t have a way to keep the butter cool.

If you are car camping, add some ice cream or whipped cream on top.
