Going green is becoming part of popular culture. Making small changes is also seeing a growing popularity; more and more people are changing their light bulbs for high efficiency alternatives or using cloth grocery bags. But often times the biggest cause of pollution and harm to our environment is so big and obvious we look right past it: our cars.
Reuse, reduce, recycle and upcycle! Upcycling is a new green living trend which repurposes old junk to make amazing new items for your home or office. Upcycled items aren't just good for the environment, they also carry with them a vintage steampunk charm that endears them to those who make them and those very special folks who receive them as gifts. Almost everything in my home is upcycled and I LOVE it! Here are some of our favorite items:
Anyone can be an artist. That’s right, even YOU! You just need a little bit of creativity and have the ability to see things that other people might not. I’ve been on a bit of an upcycling kick recently and that’s what led me to find some incredible pieces of upcycled art.
When it comes to picking out flashlights a few aspects come to find that need to fit the bill in order for me to shell out some cash: environmental impact, build quality, brightness, battery longevity, quality of light, battery type, comfort, flexibility of light/beam and perhaps some extra fun features I am not even aware of.
Meet the Bombardier Beetle. This little stink bug has the best defense mechanism of all; noxious chemical farts. That’s right, get on the wrong side of the Bombardier (Carabidae) and it will spray its poisonous farts in your general direction.
Sadly, a renewed fascination with ivory, particularly by countries in the Far East, has seen such a drastic resurgence in trade, that the denizens of Africa are once more threatened by extinction. THIS BOTHERS ME and I am deeply, profoundly pissed off.
